Overview
MessageGears offers an incredibly robust set of configuration options to allow users to personalize messages. A few examples of common data elements and situations are:
Using Freemarker to personalize message content
FreeMarker is an open-source templating language. This means that it uses placeholder text, also called variables, to create dynamic content. We’ve created a number of guides to familiarize you with common scenarios. For an introduction to Freemarker, see Getting started with Freemarker
Using the External Data API
External data APIs provide a way to enrich recipient data. Using external data APIs, you can connect to outside sources to create renderable fields in your content based on those sources.
For an overview of the External Data API, see Advanced Personalization Through Hosted and External Data APIs.
There is also a technical guide to External Data APIs available on our developer documentation site.
Hosted Data
Hosted data is a user profile cached in the MessageGears cloud. This allows customers to make use of incredibly large sets of data for Partner consumption. Non-PII data can be made available to partners for real-time personalization and campaign rendering. For example, including in emails the most recently viewed items on a website by the consumer.
